American Baccarat, Baccarat Chemin de fer, Baccarat en Banque & European Baccarat

The baccarat game

The current baccarat game originates from Italy and also for France, with a game called the Chemin de Fer.

Baccarat has traditionnally been a game played by rich people and noblemen. It is is sometimes called "the rich man's card game".

The American baccarat is the most popular form of the game, especially in North America and more particularly in Las Vegas. In the American Baccarat, the player has to choose to bet on the banker, the player or the tie. The bank is funded by the casino. In the classic Baccarat game, two cards are dealt, plus a third card if the player wishes so.

In the Baccarat Chemin de fer, the bank is played by a player, each time different, and not by the casino. Thus, players bet against themselves and the casino does not take part of the game.

The Baccarat en Banque is slightly different. Mainly the difference lies in the fact that not two but three hands are dealt, two hands for the Player and one hand for the Bank.

Very similar to the American Baccarat, the European Baccarat is popular in Europe & South America. The bank is played by the casino, which defines at which amount the game ends. In the European Baccarat, the player can choose whether he draws one more card or stands at a total of 5 and then the banker can choose to draw a third card. In European Bacarrat, the banker can also draw a third card.

The Mini-Baccarat is almost identical to the American Baccarat. But it is played in a smaller table, similar to the blackjack table, the games are generally shorter and the maximum & minimum bets are lower.
